One of the biggest musical shows in the world, expanded from Disney's animated film of the same name, THE LION KING follows the adventures of a lion cub, Simba, who is driven into exile after the death of his father, the king, then returns after struggling with the responsibilities of manhood and his future role, to overthrow his wicked uncle and reclaim the kingdom.

Marvel at the breathtaking spectacle of animals miraculously brought to life (in a blaze of fabulous imagination) by a cast of over 40 actors. Wonder at the inspiration of award-winning director/designer Julie Taymor, as one of the most successful films in history is stunningly recreated live on stage. After a hugely successful run in China, the US, Britain, Canada, Japan, Australia, Germany and Holland, the theatre production of The Lion King is coming home to South Africa, and will be showing at the world class Teatro at Montecasino in June 2007 as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations.

The Lion King in South Africa is a Disney Production and will be co-produced by Lebo M and Pieter Toerien, with Bongani Tembe, internationally acclaimed classical singer, chief executive director of the KwaZulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and director of the South African National Arts Council as the associate producer. The production will feature a fully local cast of 53 artists.
